Tucked down a small lane just behind Bintang Supermarket, on Jalan Raya Seminyak, lies the family-friendly and newly renovated Villa Mahkota. Outdoor and pool area

The expansive tropical pool runs straight down the centre of the garden with traditional thatched roofed pavilions on either side. There’s also a jacuzzi to add to the fun. Two twin daybeds, which recline, have chunky cushions and padded headrests with a parasol for shade in the middle of the day. A rattan table set is prepared in front of the outdoor bar with stools for guests to pass the time as they enjoy cold drinks. Koi ponds, vibrant frangipani trees and lush green grass complete a fantastic tropical setting. There is also a BBQ for those family BBQ nights and special events – make sure you ask the villa manager about arranging a BBQ night feast!

The living area

The air-conditioned living pavilion features soaring ceilings that can become an el-fresco setting by simply sliding back the large glass doors. The natural stone flooring is a highlight, and the walls and sideboards are decorated with beautiful art and ornaments. Large antique chairs, almost day bed in size, offer a comfortable spot for guests to relax and converse. The kitchen is loaded with modern appliances, and a breakfast bar for a quick coffee made from the villa’s espresso machine. Another air-conditioned TV room has large built-in sofa – great for family and friends to watch the latest Netflix movie on the 55” Smart TV . A more formal dining area features an open-air space with a dining table with seats for 10 people. There’s also a fully equipped gym  which features a rowing machine, Pilates reformer, and an extensive selection of weights, including CrossFit boxes, stretch rollers, ropes, and various training equipment. You’ll also love sunset cocktails on the terrace area  with comfy chairs and sofa where everyone can hang before heading out for the night.

The master bedroom

Guests of the master suite are spoilt with a private verandah housing a wonderful daybed and table setting. The king-size bed is draped with sheer netting, and the beautiful stone floors continue through the bedrooms with ample wardrobe space and an en-suite bathroom to die for with a huge soaking bathtub in the open air with a beautiful Buddha wall feature and natural stones.

The guest bedrooms are air-conditioned with spacious king-size beds and semi-outdoor en-suite bathrooms that feature monsoon showers with tropical plants and water features. There’s also a room with a two single beds so the kids or teenagers can share a room.

Villa Mahkota is strategically placed for guests to take full advantage of everything Seminyak offers. The villa gives direct access to Jalan Raya Seminyak, where guests can head north a short distance to Jalan Oberoi’s popular Eat Street. Or go a little north and reach the sands of Double Six Beach and all those fabulous restaurants along the beach. Make sure you come down to Double Six beach to watch the sunset. Grab a bean bag at any cafe, such as La Plancha (700 metres away) on the beach and enjoy the best sunset in Bali with a few cold Bintangs!

If you want to stock up on all your villa supplies, Bintang Supermarket is nearby, where you can get fresh food, groceries, alcohol and snacks for the kids. Your villa manager will arrange transport to take you there.

Cafes & restaurants. There are also many cafes nearby in Seminyak that are reasonably priced and serve great food for the whole family. Make sure you go to Cornerhouse, Shelter Cafe, The Brunch Club, MamaSan, Batik, Cafe Bali and the popular Revolver.

Shopping. If you like shopping, you are lucky, as Seminyak has many places to buy souvenirs, jewellery, surfwear and clothing along the Eat Street area. For more shopping options, hop into a Blue Bird taxi and make your way to the Kartika Plaza area in Kuta, where there are large shopping centres like Discovery Shopping & Lippo Mall. You can even go into Legian, where you can bargain with locals for Bali souvenirs.

Day Spas. There are many day spas nearby for the ladies where you can get your hair and nails done and have one of those dreamy Balinese massages. For the best treatments, head to Jari Menari, Therapy Day Spa or The Shampoo Lounge at the top of Jalan Kayu Aya. There is also the super stylish Rob Peetoom or Sundari Day Spa in Petitenget.

Travelling with kids? There are also lots of things near you to keep them entertained: Waterbom Bali  ( Asia’s premier water theme park ) or the Kuta Boardwalk, where there is a cinema, fast food and shops. They might even like a surf lesson at Double Six Beach, where you can hire boards and instructors by the hour. For dinner, there are burgers at Grill’d, BossMan, Ling Lings or Sisterfields and yummy gelato at Mades Warung. You can also take them to the popular Gusto for gelato in Kerobokan or treats at Candylicious at seminyak Village.

Party time. If you want to party, start the evening with pre-dinner drinks at the Champagne Bar on Eat Street, or Galaxy Sports Bar near Double Six Beach and then it’s off to Motel Mexicola for tequila, tacos, Bintangs and fun times. Continue the party at Shi Shi or La Favela (800 metres away ), where you can dance till dawn or go to Potato Head Beach Club (2 km away) for a nightcap before heading back to the villa. Make sure you also visit  Atlas or Finns beach clubs in Berawa for an unforgettable experience.
